What is Aviation Hull War & Allied Perils ?

Aviation Hull War & Allied Perils insurance covers losses to aircraft caused by war, terrorism, and other related perils, which are typically excluded under standard hull all risks policies. This coverage is often included in a separate policy or endorsement, providing protection against risks like war, invasion, strikes, riots, malicious acts, hijacking, and confiscation.

Aviation Hull War & Allied Perils is often a separate policy or an endorsement to the main aviation hull policy. 

Conditioned Coverage:

Coverage may be subject to certain conditions, such as the absence of contravention of applicable laws. 

What it covers:

  • War And Allied Perils: This includes events like war (declared or undeclared), invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, martial law, military or usurped power.
  • Strikes, Riots, and Civil Commotions: Coverage extends to losses resulting from strikes, riots, civil commotions, and labor disturbances.
  • Terrorism and Sabotage: Acts of terrorism and malicious acts of sabotage are typically included.
  • Hijacking and Confiscation: This covers unlawful seizure or wrongful exercise of control of the aircraft, as well as confiscation by governments or authorities.
  • Extortion and Hi-jacking Expenses: The policy can also cover expenses incurred due to threats against the aircraft, its crew, or passengers.

In conjunction with our Crisis Management & Special Risks team, we also offer kidnap and ransom insurance for individual vessels and fleets on an annual or single voyage basis.

Pays physical damage losses to an aircraft on an all-risk basis, including disappearance of an aircraft

Inclusion
  1. War:
    This includes hostilities, whether war is declared or not, and civil war.
  2. Allied Perils:
    This covers a range of risks such as invasion, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, and military or usurped power.
  3. Terrorism and Sabotage:
    Acts by individuals or groups for political or terrorist purposes are typically covered, even if unintentional.
  4. Hijacking:
    Unlawful seizure or wrongful control of the aircraft by anyone on board, excluding crew acting with the insured’s consent, is generally covered.
  5. Confiscation:
    Seizure, detention, or appropriation by a government or public authority is usually excluded, but this coverage can be purchased separately. 
Exclusions
  1. Nuclear War:
    Losses from the detonation of any weapon of war employing atomic or nuclear fission or fusion are excluded. 
     
  2. Wear and Tear:
    Gradual deterioration, breakdown, or failure of any part of the aircraft is not covered. 
     
  3. Radioactive Contamination:
    Damage from radioactive contamination, even if caused by a covered peril, is often excluded. 
     
  4. Certain Government Actions:
    Exclusions may apply to confiscation, nationalization, or requisition by governments under certain conditions. 
     
  5. Crew and Employees:
    Losses to employees or crew members while on duty, especially those related to the operation of the aircraft, are usually excluded. 
     
  6. Operational Exclusions:
    Exclusions may also apply to specific operational aspects of the aircraft, such as flights into excluded countries or areas, as per the terms of the policy.
